Highline has been designated by the U.S. Department of Education as an Asian American Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI). Following its designation, the college applied for and was awarded a five-year, $1.5 million grant, aimed at improving outcomes for its Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) students. To fulfill its obligation to these students, who constitute 22% of Highline’s total enrollment, the college launched the AAPI-SOS project.
AAPI-SOS is the name of Highline’s AANAPISI Project. It stands for Asian American/Pacific Islander – Supporting Our Students.
AANAPISI stands for Asian Americans and Native American Pacific Islander Serving Intuitions. Highline College, along with 10 other institutions of higher learning across the nation, have been awarded a grant by the U.S. Department of education that provides new services and support for Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander students.
