Professional Development

aanapisi-program-highline-college-16bEach April, AANAPISI hosts a series of professional development workshops and events to help faculty and staff better understand and relate to AA&PI students’ experiences and to decrease alienation and invisibility felt among students. The grant also provides funding for faculty release time and professional development to improve faculty’s ability to engage with students and to provide sustainability by infusing change within the college culture. With a large percentage of white faculty, this component improves faculty understanding, sensitivity, and effectiveness in working with AA&PI students.

The AANAPISI staff has set a goal of 25-30 faculty trained in AA&PI cultural responsiveness each year. Cultural responsiveness should lead to more effective learning communities and other FYE (First Year Experience) activities. By year 5, at least 95 percent of faculty will have gone through this training at least once.
