The Transfer Portfolio Review Day & the Personal Statement Workshop is an opportunity to receive personalized feedback about your personal statement and transfer application material from 4-year college Admissions representatives. This event is specifically aimed towards current Highline College students who are planning to transfer to a university in the near future.

SOCC is a three-day event with activities, workshops, and conversations meant to engage students on the conferences 5 main themes: Identity Development, Awareness of Others, Skills Development, Social Justice/ Social Activism, & Personal Development. Students will have the opportunity to explore their identity, and engage in workshops around social justice related skills and issues. QTOPIA is a two-day summit that aims to create a liberating space engaging Queer individuals and their many communities in developing their sense of belonging and pride in Queer culture and community. Asian Pacific Americans in Higher Education (APAHE) is dedicated to enhancing the educational opportunities for Asian and Pacific American students; promoting and supporting the hiring, retention, and advancement of qualified Asian and Pacific American faculty, staff, and administrators; and creating a better understanding of issues in the public affecting Asian and Pacific Americans in higher education. The Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI) Scholarship Program is a collaboration with AANAPISIs and the communities they serve to provide scholarships, expand institutional capacity and mobilize local resources to help foster economic development. Robert Teranishi, a national expert on race and the stratification of college opportunities, will discuss the ways in which his research has promoted inclusive excellence in higher education. It is an annual showcase of Pacific Islander culture, shared through song, dance and story. This year’s theme stories of our homeland highlights indigenous epistemologies and experiences from throughout the Oceania region. Come help us celebrate the beautiful and diverse cultures of Oceania.
Hear students share their experiences about their journey in education, navigating through classes and resources. A celebration of culture and unity at Highline College. This year’s event will include a Parade of Nations which will showcase the many different culture and countries on campus.
Learn and practice traditional Tongan dances such as Lakalaka, Mako and Ta’uolunga with Mario Teulilo, a local Tongan Cultural Practitioner. These workshops are open to all students, staff and faculty. AANAPISI at Highline College is delighted to invite you to our Family Night on March 15th , 2019 from 6 PM to 9 PM. Family Night is an opportunity for families to learn about our program, student involvement, and recognize our APIASF Scholarship Recipients. This will be a great chance for students to meet peer mentors and an adviser to guide them with classes. Snacks provided! Our mission for study tables is giving all our students space to excel academically and to come in and received aid for their education. Throughout the month of February, AANAPISI organized a healthy life series to educate students on staying healthy physically, emotionally, and mentally. These workshops incorporated cultural aspects, access to alternative campus resources, and more information on the program overall. Kick-off Keynote: Dr. Steve Arounsack is an award-winning educator who visualizes the nexus of media production and Asian studies. Sneak Peak of his documentary “Getting Lao’d!” Join us in welcome Dr. Arounsack! Come share the evening with Gerald Ramsey, the Pacific Islander actor playing Mufasa in the Disney stage production of The Lion King! Gerald will be conducting a workshop on Dance and presenting on his experience and the intersectionality of performance theater and traditional Samoan oral and dance traditions. Special Thanks to Seattle Theater Group for hosting and making this possible! Meet and Greet: Anne Thomas lives and work in Laos and Cambodia promoting education in rural villages, economic growth in underserved communities and advocating against sex and human trafficking. The UPRISE Summit empowers Pacific Islander students with knowledge, skills and resources to advocate for their education; to develop leadership capacities; and to pursue their dreams and hopes for a brighter future. UPRISE participants support the engagement of Pacific Islander parents/ families in the education process of their children through meaningful dialogue and brainstorming with other parents and school personnel.
