Students of Color Conference 2020 & QTOPIA

SOCC: April 23rd – April 25th, 2020

QTOPIA: May 8th – 9th, 2020

SOCC is a three-day event with activities, workshops, and conversations meant to engage students on the conferences 5 main themes: Identity Development, Awareness of Others, Skills Development, Social Justice/ Social Activism, & Personal Development. Students will have the opportunity to explore their identity, and engage in workshops around social justice related skills and issues. 

QTOPIA is a two-day summit that aims to create a liberating space engaging Queer individuals and their many communities in developing their sense of belonging and pride in Queer culture and community.

APAHE 2020 National Conference

Tongan Cultural Dance

Spring 2019, Fridays from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m

Learn and practice traditional Tongan dances such as Lakalaka, Mako and Ta’uolunga with Mario Teulilo, a local Tongan Cultural Practitioner. These workshops are open to all students, staff and faculty.

Tanna Film Screening

March 13th, 2019 from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m

Set on a remote Pacific island, covered in rain forest and dominated by an active volcano, this heartfelt story, enacted by the Yakel tribe, tells of a sister’s loyalty, a forbidden love affair and the pact between the old ways and the new.

STUDY TABLES

January 28th, 2019 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Students at Highline are welcome to attend study tables at the AANAPISI center every Mondays. This will be a great chance for students to meet peer mentors and an adviser to guide them with classes. Snacks provided!

Our mission for study tables is giving all our students space to excel academically and to come in and received aid for their education.

HEALTHY LIFE WORKSHOP SERIES

Throughout the month of February, AANAPISI organized a healthy life series to educate students on staying healthy physically, emotionally, and mentally. These workshops incorporated cultural aspects, access to alternative campus resources, and more information on the program overall.

APA Heritage Month: Professional Development Series Calendar of Events

AANAPISI is excited to announce APA Heritage Month programming! We would also like to invite our faculty and staff to participate in our professional development series. Please join us as acknowledge and celebrate the contributions made by Asian Pacific Americans in arts, education and sciences in over a month long series!

Kick-off Keynote: Dr. Steve Arounsack is an award-winning educator who visualizes the nexus of media production and Asian studies. Sneak Peak of his documentary “Getting Lao’d!” Join us in welcome Dr. Arounsack!
